Fort Davis is located in West Texas and was positioned near the route used by settlers heading toward California. It is most notable because it was manned by the “Buffalo Soldiers.” While the officers of the fort were white, the enlisted contingent was composed of black men.
THe only disappointing part of the exhibit was that the park service has decided to rebuild many of the buildings and it detracts from the authenticity of the ruins.
